Chiral induction in the Norrish Type II reaction of 2-alkoxybenzophenones in zeolite

Abstract

A chiral inductor was adsorbed into a cage of faujasite zeolite to create an environment that can bias the stereochemical outcome of the photoreaction. In this study, a series of 2-alkoxybenzophenones were irradiated in NaY modified by a series of chiral inductors, which included chiral amines and other small chiral molecules. Product enantiomeric excess was observed when 2-ethoxybenzophenone was irradiated inside NaY zeolite loaded with (+)norephedrine.
