Abstract

The pull-out strengths of an axisymmetric FRP rod and a steel reinforcing bar embedded in concrete are compared analytically. It is found that the transverse weakness and flexibility of the FRP influences the pull-out strength of the FRP reinforcing bar, and makes it likely that the pull-out failure of the FRP bar will be governed by the FRP, whereas the capacity of the steel bar will be governed by the concrete.
