Block transform image coding in the presence of channel errorst

Abstract

A combined source-channel coding approach to the problem of efficient encoding, transmission and reconstruction of image data is presented. The approach results in improved quality image reconstruction without sacrificing transmission bandwidth. This approach is shown to result in a relatively robust design which is reasonably insensitive to channel errors and yet provides performance approaching theoretical performance limits.
