Abstract
Autism is a behaviorally defined syndrome with multiple biological etiologies and varying severity. The diagnosis of autism is based on clinical criteria. In this article clinical disorders whose boundaries border and at times coalesce with autism are discussed. Delineating the boundaries and defining the spectrum of autism will enhance our understanding of the relationship between brain and behavior.
