Abstract
The application of complementary geometric programming in mechanical design is demonstrated by considering a simple design problem. The optimum design of a cone clutch is formulated as one degree-of-difficulty problem and is solved iteratively according to the complementary geometric programming algorithm. The results are compared with those obtained using a nonlinear programming technique.
