Anion-Selective Electrodes Based on Electropolymerized Porphyrin Films

Abstract

Ion-selective membranes were prepared by electropolymerization of cobalt(II) tetrakis(o-aminophenyl)porphyrin on a glassy-carbon surface for the development of potentiometric sensors. The resulting electrodes demonstrate a near-Nernstian response to anions and have submicromolar detection limits and good selectivity properties. The selectivity pattern observed is thiocyanate > perchlorate > iodide > nitrite ∼ salicylate ∼ bromide > chloride > bicarbonate > phosphate. The parameters that affect the response of these electrodes, including the electropolymerization conditions, are also described.
