Analysis of a shielded writer for perpendicular recording

The properties of shielded writers were analyzed for perpendicular recording. It was expected that perpendicular magnetic recording would allow deferring the superparamagnetic instabilities in magnetic recording media. The results showed that the throat height could be shortened without sacrificing the field gradients while maintaining the write field amplitude.
