Abstract

There is a growing popular interest in and demand for procedures which cosmetically alter female genitalia to appear more symmetric, uniform, full and youthful. This demand has spurred controversy within the medical community as to when these procedures are medically indicated, which procedures should be considered acceptable, and how to develop a standard of "Best Practices" in this new and expanding field. Currently, labiaplasty, labia majora resection, mons lift, clitoral hood reduction, mons pubis and labia majora volume augmentation are the most common procedures being performed. These procedures seem to create high satisfaction and have relatively few complications.
