Abdominal Compartment Syndrome Mimicking Sepsis

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

6 Scopus citations

Abdominal compartment syndrome results when an acute increase in intra-abdominal pressure occurs that is sufficient to compromise vascular inflow, threatening the viability of the tissues within the abdomen. It may occur in association with intra-abdominal surgery, various infections, or other conditions and is easily confused with the acute respiratory distress or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Early recognition is important; the need for surgical decompression may be urgent.
