The development of sophisticated microsurgical techniques necessitates improvements in operating microscopes. More automated features allow the surgeon to use his hands for the surgical procedure only. An existing operating microscope with automatic zoom and focus was further improved. Automatic horizontal movements were added, a motorized slit lamp attached, the illumination improved and flash illumination incorporated both into the paraxial as well as the slit pathway. Connections for automated 35-mm or movie photography and television simplified recording. Functional foot and hand controls were designed.
