Abstract
An unprotected and intact carbohydrate moiety has been observed for the first time in a transition metal complex. The carbohydrate-linked platinum(II) complex cis-dichloro[(2-β-D-glucopyranosidyl)propane-1,3- diamine]platinum (see picture) is an analogue of cisplatin and exhibits comparable antitumor activity along with increased solubility in water.
